Good afternoon! I had to miss the school board meeting last week since they changed the date and I already had a full work schedule at that time. So I have no notes from the meeting. However, Rosie attended and said there were a lot of budget numbers that were hard to read on the screen. And Barb said Dan was nice and explained a few things to the audience members and he thanked them for attending the meeting. The commissioners also changed their meeting to yesterday, Monday. So I missed that, too since I didn’t have it on my calendar. However, at the city of Harrisville meeting last night, Bill Thompson said it was a short, twenty minute meeting so we didn’t miss much, ๐
Tomorrow, Wednesday is our Tavern meeting. It will be at the library at 6:00pm.
The city of Harrisville met last night. We did attend, ๐ There were 12 people in the audience. The minutes were approved and bills paid. The city offices will be closed November 24th and 25th, December 23rd through the 26th and December 30th through January 2nd for all the holidays. The mayor emailed the city master plan to the council members. Some had read it. It needs to go through Denise at NEMCOG. Then the townships and village of Lincoln will also receive it and have 63 days to offer any suggestions or changes. The city did a short letter of support for the depot restoration. The planning commission met last week (unfortunately Bob was not notified, though he asked, because he wanted to make sure the pickleball rec center was in the plan) and there were two recommendations to the city. One for a city-wide cleanup and one to vacate the property on Adams and Fourth Street due to mess and blight. Three people were appointed to the planning commission, two in-city and one outside-city. The election went well, there were 84 absentee ballots out of the 236 cast. Delinquent sewer bills have been added to the summer tax bills. All the boats are out of the harbor and repairs have been made to the bubbler system. Colleen said she has not heard on the grant application for the airport. There was a brush fire on election day. Dave Riegle may be asked to do a formal tree plan. Bill Thompson suggested if they do a city-wide cleanup, they familiarize themselves as to what can actually go in a dumpster. Marcy Redlawsk asked about wrapping the railings in town with paper and a bow for Christmas but there is a liability issue if someone grabs the railing and slips so the answer was no. 110 electricity has been added to the end of main street for a lit tree. Becky Bean said the pocket park is officially finished and will be decorated for Christmas. There was a sculpture installed that she would like to make taller next year. They added 61 more bricks to the park. Council’s last comments – how to pay for a city-wise cleanup, marijuana funds could be used. Speaking of marijuana funds, Moosetales paid $10K they owed but the mayor said this does not guarantee their renewal and the city can pull the plug any time. The Red Cross is no longer running warming stations…it seems the school or senior center are the only places to house beds for people. There is nothing in the city to be used as an emergency gathering place. Meeting adjourned.
And here’s an early reminder for the next ACCOA meeting. It will be on the 22nd at 10:00 am. I hope you will be able to attend this one. There are several things that are going to be addressed at this meeting and we need as many community members as possible to be there.
Enjoy your week! I see there have been FOIA requests that went out all over Michigan to the county and township clerks for their voting data. Patrick Colbeck and his team are trying to reconcile the tabulator tapes with the ballots. Now the FOIA requests have been halted…more election shenanigans. They are certainly doing everything they can to stop people looking into our elections. So there are things happening, even if we don’t see them, to try to get this county back on track. ๐
See you soon!
