Good morning and Happy New Year! There are a few meetings this week that are of note.
Wednesday is the day of all three meetings. The first is the county commissioner’s meeting at 1:30, lower level county building in Harrisville,
The Tavern meeting is that same evening at 6:00pm. However, the Village of Lincoln meets at 7:00pm and public comment may be of use. So I would like to start the Tavern meeting earlier, at 5:30 so we can go to the Lincoln meeting at 7:00pm. I hope you can plan to attend both.
Also, I did get an update on the Caledonia township issue. If I understand correctly, the property in question is a private road that has public access but some homeowners on the end of the road would like to restrict public access. Tim Gauthier, who spoke at the commissioner’s meeting against the grant proposals is a former township supervisor who has sued the township. He was able to win around $5k from the township as they had not made a motion to release him from his township duties. From what I understand, he was not in attendance at many meetings and was also a registered voter in Texas. Also, the township is not in violation at the sledding hill and there is no litigation pending, it was a complaint. The litigation that was spoken of on the property is to decide who is going to pay for the upkeep of the property that the road commission does not maintain. The DEQ was asked about gravel on that portion and gave their okay. The township has adhered to all MTA (Michigan Township Association) rules. There is a FOIA request for four years! worth of bills the township has paid and the $6.25 charge is being appealed. I have to think that requesting four years worth of records is someone who is looking for something as opposed to someone who has a legitimate concern of fiscal responsibility. After receiving this information, it looks as though there are trouble-makers afoot! 🙂 Also, if you’d like to see for yourself, the court date for Caledonia is this coming Monday morning. I don’t have the exact time but if you’re interested, please attend. 🙂
Hope to see you tomorrow!
