The Alcona County Grassroots Conservatives group have recently passed a resolution condemning the actions of the ACCOA and also calling on the Alcona County Board of Commissioners (BOC) to investigate the actions as laid out in the document.
What’s the Scoop?
It seems that during the Alcona County Fair, the Director of the Alcona County Commission on Aging (ACCOA) was authorized to spend $3000.00 to bid on an animal, from the food bank grant. However, it seems that the Director of the ACCOA went over and above his allotment, and the explanations as to why, are suspect.
It seems that the Director, spent $1132.75 over his limit on an auction held by the Alcona Junior Livestock Club, during the Alcona County Fair. He, or his organization, has allegedly bid on this auction in order to provide an animal for use in the Food Bank program of the ACCOA.
Another thing, is that after the purchase was made, it was then found to not be viable for them to use the purchased animal for the food bank due to regulations, and was instead processed to be distributed among the ACCOA staff.
What’s being done?
It seems that the Alcona County Grassroots Conservatives group got wind of this bit of oversight, and have since been trying to get some answers from the Board at the ACCOA. However, the answers are not adding up, if you will. Therefore, they have written a resolution in protest, and in order to shine further light on the brewing scandal.
They disagree utterly “with the concept of taking money from its citizens for the purpose of redistributing it to individual groups.” They are also calling on the “Alcona County Board of Commissioners to investigate the intent and scope of ALCONA COUNTY COMMISSION ON AGING purchases at the 2022 Alcona Junior Livestock Club Market Sale”. This and more are found within their Resolution to Investigate the ACCOA.
